Amit Agarwal over at Digital Inspiration has posted some nifty news for Gmail users — a shortcut for deleting the email you are currently reading. Instead of scrolling around to find the delete button, you can simply press “#” and it will be moved to the trash folder. It works in all browsers, but for some reason Google has decided not to tell anyone about this handy shortcut. Enjoy!

Sweet! I have the Gmail gadget thing on my Google homepage, and if you click a message directly from there, there isn’t a delete button anywhere on the screen. The only thing I wish they’d change is when you use this shortcut from that screen, if it actually moved the message to the trash and took you back to the inbox. It works that way if you access the message from the inbox to start with, but not if you get there from somewhere else. As is, it just displays a small box at the top of the screen notifying you the conversation has been moved to the trash.
Still, very handy.
