Joostâ„¢ the best of tv and the internetWhat is Joost? It’s high-definition TV, streaming over the internet. Created by the founders of Skype and Kazaa, it uses similar technological concepts for boosting performance.

Right now, the channels are somewhat limited, but if you’ve got the hardware to support Joost, you might want to check it out. And if you want to check it out, I just so happen to have three invites to the private beta.

Leave me a comment if you’re interested (you’ll get extra points for creativity!).

    I tried to get into the Beta (no email yet) about 2 months ago. My boss is even bugging me about it. Searched through my junk mail even, about 1Gb worth, nothing.

    I’m really excited to see what’s coming next as far as “web tv” goes. Still waiting on a HDD cable card for the PC though.

    Well I’m not going to beg, but an invite would be great.

    Wow. Not more than two minutes ago was I talking to my friend about how much I want HDTV. The clarity blows my mind.

    I don’t see anything on the Joost site about system requirements. I’m sure my machine meets any requirements they set, but it’s odd not to see specifications set down somewhere.

    I don’t know that I can match the enthusiasm level of Henry up there, but I’d certainly love to give this a go. I’m all for sweet stuff like this — eventually *everything* will be online. No cable/satellite TV, just TVOIP. Did I just coin a term?

    Wow… I can’t believe that I actually beat you to something. :) I also received my invite to Joost a couple weeks ago, and installed it on my Vaio 2GHz pentium desktop with 768Mb RAM.

    To test the performance, I ended up watching a Flaming Lips documentary that ran for 25 minutes or so. Loved the quality and the content. (Thanks, Wayne.)

    BUT, if I had anything else running, everything slowed to a crawl. I just don’t have enough memory or disk space to hold the cache files that it creates. NOT a problem with Joost, but with my underpowered/underconfigured PC.

    Unlike Twitter or Justin.TV, I’ll give this one a big thumbs up!

    I feel like a kid again, begging mom for those sweets! Doing whatever it takes to get what I wanted, crying, laughing, & begging. Well, I guess or you will send me an invite or I’ll just have to grow up and wait until Joost officially goes public.

    Ok, Joost invites are going to Henry, Tigerblade and Dustin — but it’ll have to wait until next Saturday, unfortunately. I have to send the invite from Joost — which is installed on my desktop at home in California. And I’m currently in England. Sorry guys.

    If you do manage to get an invite somewhere else before then, let me know so I can pass it on to someone else.

    Wow, lots of people begging for invites despite your comment that you’d already sent them out. Interesting.

    In any case, I got my invite — Thanks!! I’ve got it installed and had a wee bit of time to play with it tonight (not as much time as I’d like at the moment, as I just started at a new job). Quality is fantastic, but the selection is rather limited. Each channel has quite a few “shows” — especially the music video channels — but there aren’t all that many real channels to pick from.

    Nevertheless, it seems quite nice for the small bit of playing I had time for. I’ll try to write up a little more of a review of sorts when I get some time, maybe this weekend. I’ve got a few things I want to write about, so I’ll have to make some time.
