I’ve been having weird problems with the WordPress admin console. I didn’t get they nifty little icon bar for TinyMCE when composing a post. When I bulk moderated comments, only the first change would actually be applied (the other changes remained in the moderation queue). Things just didn’t always work the way I expected them to (or the way they used to).
I thought maybe an upgrade to the latest version of WordPress might fix things up, so I upgraded to WordPress 2.3. The process went quickly and smoothly, but the problems persisted. It turned out all of the problems were related to the Squid proxy I was using. Eliminate the proxy and all the symptoms disappeared.
Since there are times when I have no choice but to use the Squid proxy, this doesn’t entirely solve the problem, but at least now I know where to look (and how to get around it when I need to post here).

Hint hint.. if you want to serve up wordpress pages more efficiently, try WP Cache. I’m not sure if this is exactly what you need, but it works nicely.

Glad you got it sorted, those squid are tricky buggers, all those suckers and slimy arms.
Sounds a bit fishy to me, send in a complaint ;0)

I am just truly amazed what you accomplish ‘behind the scenes’ on your websites.
I suppose it’s time I upgraded too?
I have the new version on another blog, and I like it alot.

The term squid proxy is definately new to me though.

Dan, I’ve used WP-Cache before. I know it’s a great plug-in, and dramatically increases the scalability of a blog. I’m having some issues with my plug-ins right now, and am going through one by one to try to determine which one is causing me grief. Currently, I can’t even view the plug-in page in the admin console!
Sarah, I haven’t resolved the Squid issue. I just know that it IS an issue, which means that when I want to avoid it, I need to find another place to connect to the Internet (like at home).
Barbara, I don’t feel like it’s very amazing. I’ve been remiss in keeping things up to date, although I’m beginning to find my rythym again. And yes, the update for WordPress went very smoothly… so why not?

@ Jeff well I look forward to a time when you and Squid sort out your issues. Just keep us posted.
This could be a long drawn out episode… and everyone thought ‘Lost’ went on too long, watch this space :0)
Jeff -v- Squid the final installment next week … you heard it first here folks!

Sarah, I can’t resolve the Squid problem. It’s out of my hands. My only recourse is to use a different method to connect to the Internet. And if I could think of a clever retort, my friend, I would!
